Purpose:
To dynamically add or subtract areas by specifying points inside closed regions, by selecting existing entities or by tracing closed regions.
Fig.1: Sum of areas options
1. Detect islands: Check if internal closed boundaries are going to be detected and included as negative areas or holes.
2. Erase polygons when done: Check if polylines created will be deleted after finishing.
3. Erase hatch when done: Check if hatches created will be deleted after finishing.
4. Place total area annotation in drawing: Check if you wish to place total area annotation in drawing after finishing.
5. Specify text rotation in drawing: Check if you wish to specify text rotation when placing the total sum area annotation in drawing.
6. Copy total area value to Windows Clipboard: Check if total sum area numeric value will be copied to the Windows Clipboard. You can then paste the value in any application accepting text input.
7. Gap tolerance: Specify the maximum size of gaps than can be allowed when scanning for closed areas.
8. Area conversion factor: Specify a positive non-zero value. The resulting area value will be multiplied by this conversion factor.
Fig 2: Sum of areas annotation settings
1. Prefix: Type text to be included before total area sum annotation.
2. Suffix: Type text to be appended to total area sum annotation.
3. Decimal places: Set decimal places for total area sum annotation.
4. Text size: Type text size for total area sum annotation.
5. Distance selector button: Click to set text size by selecting distance between two points in drawing.
6. Text rotation: Type default text rotation for total area sum annotation.
7. Angle selector button: Click to select angle selecting two points in drawing.
8. Units: Check if text size will be in drawing units or in plotting units according to corresponding layout scale.
9. Annotative: Check if the total area sum annotation height will change when the corresponding layout scale is modified.
10. Text selector button: Click to set text properties by selecting a text object in drawing. Text size, layer color, style and font will be automatically selected to be the same as the selected text object.
11. Text settings: Select layer, color style and font for total area sum annotation.
Fig. 3: Sum of areas boundary settings.
1. Boundary settings: Select layer, color and line weight for polygon boundaries.
2. Line width: Type line width for polygon boundaries.
3. Units: Check if text size will be in drawing units or in plotting units according to corresponding layout scale.
4. Select linetype button: Press to select polygon boundary linetype from a dialog box.
5. Hatch settings: Select layer and color for polygon hatch.
6. Associative: Check if hatch will be associative and updated when the boundary is changed.
Comments:
· To reduce the elements that will be processed to detect closed regions zoom in to the extents of the areas that will be added as close as possible.
· When specifying line weight for polygon boundaries select a value greater than 0.25mm(0.010") if you wish to see lines more than one pixel wide on screen.
